Chennai: News Clipping

When i saw an article in todays paper, i thought that, finally crafts as hobbies are given recognition in India. Its about a software techie from Chennai who also makes beaded jewellery.
I tried hard over the internet to get the link to the article but in vain. Somehow the epaper also doesnt feature this article though it is present in the hard copy of the newspaper.

The article is in Deccan Chronicle, dated 30 Aug 2008. You can find it in the 23rd Page of the Chennai Edition’s “TV Entertainment Guide”

If anyone can get hold of the article on the net, please let me know, i want to place the link in my post.

Here is the Article, Thanks to “Gomse”.
Beads make a style statement” The Article is almost at the end of the page. The Newspaper even had her Picture and featured some of her work.

Chennai Weekend: Independence Day

I have been two lazy to publish this post last week :-)

Its a long Weekend with the “Independence Day” falling on friday. Any plans to lazy out were completely undone as my husband is preparing for his travel and there are lots of things to be taken care. I leave the packing to him as i always feel the person who is traveling will best know his needs and also unwanted questions on where things are can be avoided later.
My SIL and her family are visiting us from Ireland and they will be here on Monday morning (Aug 18). I am excited partly coz she will be passing me on some yarn from Jeni and partly coz i badly want to see her second kid ‘H’. H was a bit above an year when i got married and we were great friends then, now he can talk in full sentences and am dying to see him.
On the knitting side i worked on my bag for sometime and started to look out for a pattern for a dishcloth for my crochet weekdays and finally settled on the pattern on the reverse of a ball band.

With my In-Laws planning to go to Mumbai along with my SIL and her family, i might be alone in the house for a day in the coming weekend ( and i am too excited for it…. see i got some plans already).

I think i will have something to show you next week.

Crochet WeekDay: Small Shell Doily

SMALL SHELL DOILY

History
I am so desperate for yarn for doilys ( on top that one 50gm spool isnt enough for one doily)… i went around the house to find something that can be crocheted.
A “Kalasem”, we used sometime back for puja has a yarn wound around it and it is same as the yarn left by the plumbers last weekend. I think it is the same yarn used by the flower sellers to tie the flowers..
Its a 3 ply yarn ( very loosely plied). Each strand is tightly spun.
I worked on a small doily to test it..
FO - Small Shell Doily1
Yarn:
3-Ply Cotton Yarn
Hook: 4mm Pony Metal
Others:
Size: 8” Diameter
Pattern: Small Shell Doily, I found it through crochetpatterncentral
Notes:
The only problem is the yarn does not give a great stitch definition but gives the doily a very vintage look.
I dyed the doily with turmeric, as i saw the yarn from puja stuff has lot of turmeric on it.
(Will upload that photo soon)

If i make it again;
I will try to use the 5 ply yarn used by the flower sellers and will not dye it.

No More Dyeing with Kitchen stuff :-)
Time: 1 Day

Crochet WeekDay: Gadget Glove

GADGET GLOVE

History
My DH got a External Harddrive to store his Movie collection. He couldnt find a cover for it, so i offered him to crochet one. I just took its length and breadth measurements. Using the the gauge calculated the number of stitches and crocheted this. The Best Part is my DH loved it. Now i got a request from him to make some luggage tags :-)
FO - Gadget Glove3
FO - Gadget Glove2FO - Gadget Glove1
Yarn:
Lily Sugar n Cream Omberes in “Swimming Pool” Color
Hook: 4mm Pony Metal
Others: A Button and Tapestry Needle.
Size: 4” by 6.5”
Pattern: My Own
Notes:
I crocheted this using the gauge on the Ball Band and the measurements of the drive. Added an overall ease of 0.5” to accommodate the thickness of the gadget and the stitching.
Added a pocket in the Front to keep the wires.
Initial intention was not to add the button but then though it will be better to have a closure to prevent accidental fall of the gadget from its glove.

If i make it again;
I will use a solid color yarn.

Adding a Pocket
Time:
3 Days.

My Second Wedding Aniv

hmmmmm…. I sucessfully completed 2 years of my married life… :-)
I am very very happy and my DH gave me a biiiiiiiiiiiiig surprise. Can you believe… He got me a Knitting Book, yes a Knitting Book. Ofcourse a huge card with our photo on it.
When i asked why he choosed that book he answered me coz it has some cap/hat/beanie patterns and i recently signed up for a swap in which i have to make one. Guys do observe your activities…
Wedding Aniv Gifts

As usual my Tailor almost spoiled my day, but delivered my dress at the last minute.
We went to “Annalakshmi” restaurant on Mount Road for lunch and after that to Satyam Cinemas to watch “Dark Knight” to celebrate the day.

“Annalaksmi” is amazing… its a vegetarian restaurant and reservation is a must. You will be simply overhelmed by the hospitality and ambience and not tell about the food. All the peoplpe who cook, serve and maintain are disciples of a Guruji and the proceedings go to charity. We took two hours to complete a Meal.

I didnt watch the first movie in the Batman series but i enjoyed this movie a lot.

Thats it, the day is over…..
